No better day than Wednesday to blog about something I love!!
I’m a bit of a gadget girl that is for sure. I still drool over Iphones (darn work-issued blackberry), HAD to get a Clarisonic when I heard about it and get crazy amounts of joy over computers. However, this is probably my favourite one in the house:
Our Nespresso machine!!!
I bought this 2 years ago almost as a birthday present for my husband. He is a bit of an espresso aficionado and had grand plans to buy a crazy machine that would grind the beans, make the espresso, steam the milk, clean itself and hopefully vacuum the house. All for the low price of around $1500. Insane, I know.
After copious amounts of research, we went to the Nespresso boutique at the Bay in the Eaton Centre. It is this sleek looking place that makes you feel like George Clooney could walk in at any moment. There, they show you how the machine works by making you espresso after espresso until you are hopped up on caffeine and all you want to do is BUY EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!
We kept it together and went home to do more research, and for J’s 30th birthday, my family and I went in together and bought him that lovely piece of titanium coloured machinery. Oh glorious coffee.
No, it doesn’t make hot chocolate nor can you put in a packet of freeze dried powdered milk that strangely turns into cappuccino foam when you press a button. What it does is make truly excellent espresso every time. You can pick from a variety of types of espresso and the capsules are good for something like a year so you can stock up. If you don’t live near a boutique, you can order online for 1-2 day delivery.
Another great thing about it is that every machine makes the exact same coffee – so there is no real benefit to upgrading the machine unless you want more bells and whistles (i.e. cup warmers, integrated frother, etc.). So you can get a machine for as low as 250 or so.
We also bought the neatest gadget to go with it – the Aeroccino frother. Basically, you pour in the milk and press a button. In 90 seconds you have perfectly heated cappuccino foam or warm latte milk. It doesn’t get much easier than that!
Anyways – I just thought I’d share the love. We get tonnes of compliments on the espresso and didn’t spend an arm and a leg to get it. No, it doesn’t vacuum the house but for the price we paid, that’s okay!
And no - I'm not being paid to advertise for Nespresso. I just love it that much!
Does anyone else have a favourite gadget in the house? Do tell J I’m always on the lookout for new ideas!
